User experience. It is at the heart of this next release.
How you feel about the software and services you use is greatly influenced by how
the software looks and how it works. That’s why, this update of the MTBC EHR focuses
very heavily on improving your overall user experience with our application in an
effort to make tasks easier, faster, and more intuitive.
Social EHR. Dashboards, News Feeds, Real-Time Updates: these
are the driving tools of today’s most successful social media sites. Unfortunately,
the rest of the healthcare technology industry has not kept up in terms of adopting
these concepts. MTBC EHR v 5.2 takes full advantage of the benefits of social media
in a way which can help you improve patient care. Now, updates from across the practice
resonate on your dashboard and every action on a patient’s record is recorded in
a manner which helps you find the information you need to make critical decisions.
Let’s take a look at some of the major new features available in MTBC EHR
V 5.0.2.00.
- Home Screen: We began with a complete redesign of our Home screen.
Gone are the grey, dull tables displaying scheduled appointments, messages, and
tasks; now you will find an exciting new dashboard which displays relevant information
about Refills, Documents, Messages, Tasks, Schedules, Lab Results and much more!
With 14 available widgets, your dashboard is fully customizable and it is the place
for you to manage each aspect of your practice.

- Benefits:
- A single page which provides you the critical information you need to manage each
aspect of your practice.
- Easy to add, edit, and navigate through the metrics which are important to you.
- Simple, easy to understand interface.
- Patient Feed: An integrated, updated, page which displays real-time
updates to each aspects of a patient’s chart. The Patient Feed provides meaningful
updates regarding a patient’s clinical & non-clinical data. It centralizes all the
content your office has created, as well as updates from MTBC, in one easy to read
window. You may see updates to the following sections:
|
Demographics
|
PHR registration
|
PHR messaging
|

Whenever any of the above items is updated in the patient’s record, it automatically
updates the Patient Feed. You can comment on any of the updates using the comment
button. Your comments will be sent as a Message to the user who has entered or created
that update.
- Features:
- An automatically updating list of all activity on a patient’s account.
- Ability to comment on each item created or updated on the patient feed.
- Add clinical items from outside of a standard chart.
- Benefits:
- See sequential updates to a patient’s clinical and non-clinical record.
- Access extended details of any update by clicking on the title of the update.
- View items of the patient’s chart without opening a specific encounter.
- Pediatric Forms: For pediatricians an EHR must meet very specific
needs to assist in clinical documentation and workflow. We have optimized the EHR
to meet the needs of pediatricians by adding specialized forms for developmental,
behavioral, educational, feeding and nutritional histories. Additionally, we have
fully integrated the American Academy of Pediatrics schedules for vaccinations in
an extraordinary graphical interface. It not only notifies you of pending immunizations,
but it also highlights the entire schedule of immunizations due for any patient.
Using simple color codes, the EHR now shows you the exact immunizations which are
due for a patient and the immunizations which have been missed.
- Features:
- Full AAP schedules for patients 0-6, 7-18, and 18+.
- Graphical guide to all immunizations based on a patient’s age.
- Detailed entry available for each vaccination and integration with immunization
registries.
- Benefits:
- The sequential display of all scheduled immunizations for a given patient allows
you and the parent to discuss pending vaccinations in a clear and concise chart.
- See missed immunizations at a glance with simple color codes and notifications.
- Follow the patient’s full immunization schedule from birth through teenage years.
- Notifications & Updates: See updates, not static. This update to the
EHR takes messaging, communications and in-app notifications to a new level. Do
you ever feel overwhelmed by the data and updates which flow into your inbox? We’ve
taken great strides to streamline the notifications which do arrive in your Messages
box and we’ve found new ways to communicate important information without the use
of Messages or Tasks.
- Cash Register: When patients make a payment through
MTBC’s integrated kiosk , the scheduler will now automatically show the payment
details in the patient balance column with a simple
icon. Mouse over this icon to see a balloon with all the payment details:
-
Assign to Group: Have you ever tried to send a message to all of the
nurses in your practice only to find that you had to select each nurse individually?
This update allows you assign tasks, messages, documents, labs, and many other items
to an entire group of employees. Using the EHR’s User Manager, assign each employee
a specific Role within the practice. Default Roles already exist for Staff, Nurse,
Physician, and Administrator. When sending a message or a lab result, you can now
select ALLNURSES, ALLSTAFF, etc. from your standard address book.
-
Demographics: When updating a patient’s demographics there are many
factors to consider before saving your changes. Has the patient’s guarantor changed?
Is the new insurance linked to a previous guarantor? If the patient is a minor does
he or she have an insurance plan through a parent or a guardian? We have added a
number of new checks and balances that will alert you if the information you enter
is incomplete or inconsistent with information already on the patient’s record.
We’ve also cleaned up some redundant fields on the demographics form, added an option
for a second default pharmacy, and fixed the formatting of some minor fields—all
in an effort to make the entry of information faster and easier.
-
Referral Tracking: Easily document, review, and confirm patient referrals.
The EHR has always allowed you to request real-time referral transactions using
the ANSI HIPAA 278 Transaction standard. What’s new is that you can now see the
referral statuses for each patient directly in the Save Appointment window. Red
and green color notifications will show you the current status for each referral.

-
Checkout Notes: After completing an in-office patient encounter, a
provider can create check-out notes which are shared with the front desk. These
notes appear automatically on the scheduler to allow the front desk to complete
the task assigned by the provider. In this update, these notes are also relayed
to the Plan of Care where they now appear as part of the permanent patient note.
-
Distinguishing New Items: One of the ongoing challenges with using
any EHR is the need to filter through the massive amount of data available in each
patient’s record to find the key pieces of relevant information. To assist in this,
we have updated the manner in which the EHR displays printed information during
a patient encounter. Now, whenever a new diagnosis, medication, allergy, etc. is
added to the patient’s record, the printed report will distinguish this entry from
existing items.
-
Video Help Guides: This one is simple. Look for the Video Help icon
on any module, screen, or form in the EHR and watch a short video on that feature.
- Templates: This update to the EHR dramatically expands the number,
content, and flow of templates in the EHR.
- Cash Register Auto Posting: An important contribution of the success
of the MTBC EHR is the willingness to listen closely to our customers and use their
feedback to drive new development. We have listened closely to your suggestions,
and we’ve taken steps to implement them. Users have asked us to:
- Find a better way to match today’s in-office payments with previous balances.
- Eliminate the delay of the cash register entry to the account’s payment posting.
- Allow direct posting of balances from the cash register to previous patient balances.
- Show details of previous in-office payments.
The new EHR Cash Register allows all of these features, and a few more. When you
open the EHR Cash Register, you may notice a new option of “Detailed View” at the
very bottom of the window. Clicking on “Detailed View” will display the details
of previous in-office payments and give you an option to post today’s patient payment
to a specific date of service.Additionally, even if you never open the “Detailed
View,” you will immediately benefit from the Auto-Posting aspects of the new cash
register. Whenever a previous balance payment is posted to a patient’s account,
the new cash register will automatically post that payment to the patient’s oldest
balance first. This eliminates the delay which would normally occur where the cash
register payment would not be fully posted to the patient’s account until the next
business day.
The new cash register provides:
- Immediate posting of patient payments,
- A clear view of the patient’s payment history,
- And, the ability to choose which previous balance should be posted first.
- Flow Sheets: Track past mammograms, PSA test, Coumadin levels, or
any other metric you wish using the newly integrated Flow Sheet forms. Create flow
sheets specific to male or female patients in your practice. Flow sheets have been
integrated with a redesigned Health Summary form which displays relevant material
in a more concise manner.
- Features:
- Create Flow Sheets on the fly.
- Create simple, consecutive notes on any flow sheet item.
- See past updates from any user in the practice.
