On Thursday, April 29, 2010, MTBC hosted a free webinar on achieving “meaningful use” of certified web based EMR technology under the current government standards. The hour-long session was presented by Muhammad Chebli, Vice President of Information Technology for MTBC. Mr. Chebli provided a practical, comprehensive breakdown of the stimulus incentives currently available to healthcare providers under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). He also demonstrated how a quality EMR can be used to obtain the bonuses offered under ARRA.
The webinar was well-attended by physicians and practice managers from a wide variety of medical specialties. A full reproduction of the webinar will be available on MTBC’s website for those who did not hear about it in time or were otherwise unable to attend.
The ARRA Stimulus Incentives
Under ARRA, healthcare providers that can show “meaningful use” of certified web based EMR technology are eligible to collect government bonuses in excess of $44,000. Moreover, providers that fail to successfully implement EMRs in their offices will eventually become subject to penalties. The government has provided a list of 25 different criteria that it will utilize to determine whether a particular practice has achieved “meaningful use.”
